Mazatlan Inshore Fishing Inshore fishing is practiced no more than 5 miles offshore; small species are target in this kind of fishing, such as: rooster, snapper, snook, corvine (sea bass), trigger, cabrilla, Spanish mackerel, grouper and a wide variety of rock fish. Different fishing techniques may be used for inshore fishing: bottom fishing, trolling artificial lures or live bait or casting with conventional or fly fishing tackle. It all depends on the fishermen requirements. Boats: inshore fishing can be done in either a superpanga or on a cruiser, although we recommend the superpangas, because these are lighter and faster boats and also can get to shallow water areas. All our boats are tournament rigged.
Mazatlan Offshore Fishing Offshore fishing is also called: deep sea fishing, blue water fishing or big game fishing, the average offshore distance that is fished in Mazatlan is between 20-50 miles offshore. The fish species that are target are: stripped marlin, blue marlin, black marlin, swordfish, yellow fin tuna, bonita, dorado, wahoo and sharks. Boats: offshore fishing can be done in either a cruiser or a superpanga, although we recommend the cruisers, because the Captains have a better chance to view the fish on the sea surface and also can get to farter areas. All our boats are tournament rigged. Our cruisers are equipped with cabin air conditioner.
Mazatlan Fly Fishing
Fly fishing is a type of fishing that involves using an artificial fly. It is different from traditional fishing methods in that fly anglers cast a hook that generally has bits of feather, fur, foam, yarn, or other similar material attached using thread to form what is referred to as a'fly', as opposed to using worms or other bait.
The best known and classic form of fly fishing is what is known as dry fly fishing. The fisherman uses an artificial fly, which he casts so that it will float on the water. The fly will pass over the fish, which will hopefully rise up and bite it. The fisherman then tries to control the fish's attempts to escape, tiring it enough to bring it in to be retrieved from the water with a landing net.
